Action star Bruce Willis chats about his latest film, GI Joe: Retaliation He was not a part of the original, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but his presence in the sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, has made the film hit headlines, even before its release. Now that the Part II of the iconic film is hitting Indian screens today, two days before its international release, action star Bruce Willis talks about playing the titular role in the film, that of the original Joe, General Joseph Colton, the man who created the original team and earned the name G.I. Joe, and more.

What were your thoughts before signing on the role of Joe Colton?
When I was 8 or 9 years old, I was playing with the G.I. Joe action figures. So, it’s an honour for me to play General Joe Colton, the guy that put this G.I. Joe squad together. I had a ball working on this film and we want to do another one.

What should audiences expect from G.I.Joe: Retaliation?
It’s an ambitious film and it’s complicated in a lot of ways. It’s a big cast; it combines huge action, big action stars and comedy.

What is that one thing that you will say is radically different in this film?
The weaponry in this film was just off the charts and raised the bar for sure. I really like that and I’ve always supported the military. It’s about doing the right thing and trying to help people, and I like that creed. Whether there is comedy in it or not, there is still the idea of looking after people.

How do you continue to motivate yourself after decades of illustrious work?
I think people want to see you beat your best performance and beat your best work and surprise them. There is nothing better than going to the movies and surprising the audience and hearing them go, ‘Oh my God how did they do that?’ Whether it’s a stunt or whether it’s a scene or whether it’s a joke that makes them go ‘Oh My God’’s just so nice to hear that. Its a great job to have, to continually challenge yourself to beat your best record.
