The first official photo of Naomi Watts (J. Edgar, Fair Game) portraying Princess Diana, and looking like an official royal image with her sapphire and diamond earrings, was released July 5, for the biopic Diana.
The film, formerly titled Caught in Flight, is being directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) and costars Naveen Andrews (Lost, The English Patient) as Dr. Hasnat Kahn.
The story focuses on the last two years of the late princess's life, including her affair with the heart surgeon, and following Diana's life as she transitioned to fame and her work as a global campaigner and humanitarian.
Currently filming, it is also scheduled to shoot in Croatia, Mozambique and London. Diana is scheduled to open in France February 20, 2013, and the Netherlands February 28, followed by Argentina and Sweden later next year.
Meanwhile, the documentary Unlawful Killing by Keith Allen, British singer Lily Allen's father, has been withdrawn from distribution indefinitely, reports The Guardian.
The film about the 2008 inquest into Princess Diana's death, created a furor at a Cannes 2011 screening over its use of a graphic image of the fatal car crash in 1997. Though is was pre-sold for worldwide release, a form of insurance proved impossible to secure.
