According to the Hollywood Reporter, Robert De Niro and Shia LaBeouf have started talks with Paramount to play a father and son in spy circles.
Spy's Kid is based on the true story of a spy who hires his son to carry on his work. Paramount stumbled on this story in a series of articles published by Bryan Denson in The Oregonian in 2011.
De Niro is favorite to play the lead as Jim Nicholson, a CIA agent who is sentenced to 23 years in jail for espionage in the 1990s. While in jail, he initiates his son Nathan (LaBeouf), who then acts as his messenger.
The young Transformers star would be again joining forces with director D.J. Caruso, whom he worked with on Eagle Eye and Disturbia.
