Shah Rukh Khan fumes, Bollywood fraternity supports

The film fraternity has come out in support of Shah Rukh Khan after he clarified his stand on the uproar caused by an article he wrote in an international magazine about how he sometimes “becomes an inadvertent object of political leaders”. At an event on Tuesday evening, the actor said, “Ironically the article I wrote (yes it’s written by me) was actually meant to reiterate that on some occasions my being an Indian Muslim film star is misused by bigots and narrow-minded people who have misplaced religious ideologies for small gains … and ironically the same has happened through this article … once again.” He added, “Secondly, if you read it, nowhere does the article state or imply I’m unsafe … troubled or disturbed in India.”

His friends in Bollywood agree. “As a responsible citizen and a human being foremost, Shah Rukh has spoken his heart out. I think we should let him be and let him live,” says filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who is directing him in Chennai Express. “Shah Rukh is a proud Indian and we are all proud of him for what he has achieved. No one should try and undermine that or question his loyalty to this nation. That would be an unpatriotic act,” says filmmaker Pritish Nandy.

Filmmaker Karan Johar tweeted, “Ridiculous misinterpretation of @iamsrk’s’ words...an extremely well written piece being subjected to political agenda...a shame!!!!”
