Woody Allen is following his latest directorial venture Blue Jasmine with an acting stint in the John Turturro-directed comedy Fading Gigolo where he is seen playing the role of a pimp.
In the first trailer of the film, Allen's character is seen playing a failed bookseller who takes on the job of a pimp by fixing dates with lonely women and Turturro's character, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The film will screen at the Toronto Film Festival this September. Sharon Stone, Sofia Vergara and Vanessa Paradis star as the female clients looking for some action in the film.
Turturro, who also wrote the script, said it was their barber that helped him bag Allen for the role.
"I've always been a fan of Woody's. I blabbed it to my barber, who cuts his hair." Allen was interested in doing the role after the barber told him the premise of Fading Gigolo.
The 77-year-old filmmaker rarely takes up acting assignments outside of projects directed by him.
