The Amazing Spider-Man won’t be hitting theaters until July 3, 2012, but Sony Pictures is already mapping out plans for a sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The studio penciled in a release date for the second film in the rebooted franchise, putting a marker down on May 2, 2014.
The new, revamped Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb, stars Andrew Garfield in the iconic role of Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter-ego Spider-Man. The studio has already lined up James Vanderbilt, who has worked on the screenplay for the new film, to begin work on its sequel. While Garfield is reportedly confirmed to reprise his role as the New York superhero, there is no confirmation yet on Parker’s lady love Mary Jane Watson’s character played by Emma Stone in the reboot.
