Director Justin Lin has announced the name for the the upcoming third instalment of the Star Trek reboot franchise. The film will be called Star Trek Beyond, as rumoured after writer Simon Pegg let it slip during an interview a few weeks ago.
The director posted a close-up picture of a Starfleet badge along with two relevant hashtags, #LLAP which is the Vulcan salute, "Live long and prosper" and #StarTrekBeyond on Twitter.
The second hashtag Star Trek Beyond happens to be the title of the third movie in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, reported People magazine. Star Trek Beyond follows a convention set by the previous film, Star Trek Into Darkness.
Lin, best known for directing many of the Fast and Furious movies, takes over directorial duties from JJ Abrams, who helmed the previous two Star Trek films and is now producing the third.
Series stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are returning for the third outing, which is expected to release on July 8, 2016.
