Star Wars review roundup: The Force is really strong with this one

The first reviews for Star Wars: The Force Awakens are in and - wait for it - they’re all extremely positive. Praise is heaped on director JJ Abrams and his cast and the nostalgic tone of the movie.

The reviews for director JJ Abrams’ The Force Awakens are in and critics are praising the space adventure as a return to form for the Star Wars franchise, albeit one that replays many of the saga’s familiar story lines. Here’s a roundup of reviews:

- Manohla Dargis, New York Times: “The big news about Star Wars: The Force Awakens is __ spoiler alert __ that it’s good! Despite the prerelease hype, it won’t save the world, not even Hollywood, but it seamlessly balances cozy favorites __ Harrison Ford, ladies and gentlemen __ and new kinetic wows along with some of the niceties that went missing as the series grew into a phenomenon, most crucially a scale and a sensibility that is rooted in the human.”
