Discovered while walking on a beach, showbiz happened by chance for Modern Family’s famous Latino mom Sofia Vergara, and the Colombian actor doesn’t deny her streak of luck for whatever she has achieved.
“Eight years ago, I didn't even know that I could be an actor. So, for me, it’s very exciting to have the success that I have and to be able to play roles now with big time actors and directors. I feel very thankful,” says Vergara, as we catch up with her during the promotion of her latest 3D live-action animation outing, The Smurfs, in Cancun, Mexico. The actor plays a vixen in the movie.
“I’m enjoying my 15 minutes of fame as much as I can, because you never know. And I’m very happy trying to do everything and trying to get better at what I’m doing all the time,” she adds with a smile before cutting her 39th birthday cake in a make believe Smurfland inundated with little blue rubber Smurfs.
Her happiness is writ large on her face, and with toys all around and not able to contain it, she says, “I grew up in Columbia and The Smurfs have been like the biggest entertainment in my country. So when I got the script, I’was like, ‘Oh, my God, I want to be part of this project’.”
