The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot turned out to be one of the biggest box-office surprises of last year. So, obviously, we now have a sequel. It’s called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, because, well, the turtles aren’t hiding anymore. Here is the first trailer.

The power of Michael Bay is immense and absolute. Say what you will about his brand of loud, explosion-heavy entertainment, but there’s no denying that he has a flair for mounting immaculately orchestrated action. Unlike director Jonathan Liebesman, Bay returns as producer here, hiring brand-new recruit/minion Dave Green (Earth to Echo) to do the dirty work. And, as with the first film, this comes across more like a Michael Bay rip-off than anything else.

Michael Bay’s style is splattered all over this movie.

It’s stuff like this that makes you admire Bay more, in a very twisted way. His work may seem immature and brash, but if this trailer accomplishes anything, it’s cementing the idea that his style cannot be easily imitated. Perhaps that was Bay’s plan all along. Mock him now.

As far as the plot goes, there’s nothing much to talk about really. The turtles are back. The jokes remain unfunny. The action stays unoriginal. The script, unfortunately, is still absent. But there’s Megan Fox. When all else fails, stick a hot Megan Fox in there and earn back that lost goodwill.

The trump card: Megan Fox.

There are some new characters, if you’re interested. Joining Rocksteady and Bebop is a slew of new actors only Michael Bay can round up, no doubt with the promises of large sums of money. Three-time Oscar nominee Laura Linney and Tyler Perry, who last stole scenes in Gone Girl, will also be featured. And then there’s Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, as Megan Fox’s new love interest Casey Jones. Wonder what Will Arnett will have to say about that.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows also stars Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Johnny Knoxville, Jeremy Howard as The Turtles with Tony Shalhoub, Brian Tee and William Fichtner and several Victoria’s Secret models. It will arrive in theatres on June 3, 2016.
