The filming of the much awaited reboot of the Spider-Man franchise might be close to an end, but the action-packed thriller has at least one person still shaking in his Spidey suit — the man who plays the web slinging superhero, actor Andrew Garfield.
“I’m terrified,” says Garfield, adding that taking on the role of the teenage crime fighter and comic book character was daunting, because of the responsibility for portraying someone who is loved by so many people. He says,“It’s overwhelming to represent this symbol. Because that’s all I am, the guy in the suit. And before, it was Tobey (Maguire)..next time hopefully it will be a half-Hispanic/half African-American actor.”
While Garfield is known for portraying the character of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg’s best friend in the film, The Social Network, The Amazing Spider-Man: The Untold Story, is considered as being his biggest Hollywood break. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on July 3.
The original Spider-Man movie trilogy skyrocketed actor Tobey Maguire to stardom and earned about $1.1 billion at the box-office. For the remake, veteran director Sam Raimi turned over the franchise reins to one-film old Marc Webb. The director made his debut with the film (500) Days of Summer, which released in 2009. In the remake, the character of Peter Parker searches for the reason for his parent’s disappearance during his childhood. His pursuit brings him face to face with his dad’s old partner, Dr Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), who transforms into the villainous Lizard.
With the new film, Spider-Man gets a new love interest too. Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), takes on actor Kirsten Dunst’s character, Mary Jane, from the previous films. “Gwen falls in love with Peter Parker, whereas I think Mary Jane falls in love with Spider-Man,” says Stone. Let’s Get Connected
