If some accounts are to be believed, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has had a production as tumultuous as the war it depicts. But the film finally premiered on Sunday, and the first reactions are in.
Keep in mind, these tweets are mostly by fans and industry figures who were invited to the premiere by Disney, so for them to have been exceptionally harsh is unlikely. But the general consensus seems to be very positive.
This is a big relief, especially considering the less-than-positive buzz that has plagued the film for months now. Back in June, it was reported that director Gareth Edwards’ film was being sent back into the war zone for ‘expensive reshoots’.
Reshoots are a standard practise with big studio films these days, but the schedule for Rogue One has been noteworthy. Disney brought in veteran writer/director Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) to do considerable work on the film’s third act, and some reports suggest he made up to $5 million for his work on the film.
But it seems like it has all paid off. The reactions praise the tone, and the action, especially the once-problematic third act.
