A few months ago, reports suggested that Hollywood actor Scarlett Johansson, who plays the part of Black Widow in The Avengers, was expected to visit the country this year. Soon after, rumours did the rounds that heavy metal band Black Sabbath’s lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, who has composed a track for the Joss Whedon superhero film, was also planning a trip to India. And now, the latest buzz is that actor Mark Ruffalo too may be flown here for the promotions of the film that opens in the country on April 27.

Industry insiders reveal that the actor, who plays the role of The Hulk in the movie, is expected to visit Kolkata as part of his promotional tour around Asia. For the uninitiated, a part of the film has been shot in capital city of West Bengal. “Mark couldn’t come to Kolkata with the crew during the shoot because of some logistical issues, but he is very interested in visiting the city to promote the film,” says the insider, adding that the portion of the film where The Hulk is in hiding has been captured in Kolkata.

Incidentally, that isn’t the only Indian connect. According to Jeremy Latchman, the co-producer of The Avengers, the production crew recreated India in a set, which was assembled in New Mexico. Says Jeremy, “A part of the movie takes place in India, which is quite cool. We worked really closely with the Indian community in New Mexico to recreate a very realistic version of India for the film.”

The film, which has been produced by Marvel Studios and is being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, brings together various iconic characters from the Marvel Universe —Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) among others.
