Tom Cruise is back doing what Tom Cruise does best. This time, the movie’s called Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the sequel to 2013’s Jack Reacher and we’ve just seen the new trailer.
At 54, Tom Cruise’s roles have started blending into one another. The lines between Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible), Jack Harper (Oblivion), William Cage (Edge of Tomorrow) and Jack Reacher have begun to blur. But you can always count on a lot of trademark running, screaming and punching bad guys. And that’s exactly what Jack Reacher: Never Go Back gives us.
It’s based on the 18th novel in Lee Child’s Reacher series, that features the gruff military policeman turned reclusive investigator. This time, Cobie Smulders recruits him to investigate the murder of members of her squad.
The most obvious difference between this movie and the first is that there is no Werner Herzog playing the villain and telling stories about biting fingers off, which is a crying shame. But, the ‘70s style action remains intact, with added humour and what looks like an in-form Tom Cruise performance.
Director Edward Zwick’s film opens on October 21. Here is the super-patriotic poster that’s sure to bring in all the Trump-loving crowd.
