Spoiler alert: If you like to head into a film without knowing its central twist, then do give the new trailer of Terminator Genisys a miss. For this gives away such an important plot premise that internet has wound itself up in circles interpreting what it exactly means.
However, if the trailer has established anything, it is this: The rebooted Terminator franchise may have the spirit of the film your parents watched but the substance is all its own.
The basic premise remains, though. Skynet has taken over the world and the Machine vs Humans war is on. The leader of human rebellion John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to save his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke). Only, we soon realise that John cannot save the humans because - dramatic pause - he is "not machine, not man" himself.
Well, good to see the trailer for Terminator:Genysis keeps up the tradition of spoiling the movie's central plot twist.— Dan Murrell (@MurrellDan) April 13, 2015
The three-minute long trailer doesn't give you time to recover from the fact that Connor may be a Terminator before throwing another one at you - with his robotic exoskeleton and regeneration abilities, Connor is the chief antagonist who proclaims he is more than just the binary debate of humans vs machines.
I'm trying to understand the marketing strategy behind that Terminator Genysis trailer. Nope... Someone is getting fired for that debacle.— Raghav (@raghavmodi) April 13, 2015
There's more to keep you watching: The ageing (yes, machines age as well) T800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has to learn to mingle but also fight off with a younger version of himself (thank you CGI).
And we also get to hear Arnie mouth those famous words: "Come with me if you want to live" and "I will be back"
Terminator Genisys stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clark, JK Simmons, Matt Smith, and Byung-hun Lee, and will release on July 1, 2015.
