Since he quit professional wrestling for movies, he has been branded as an action star — and going by his choice of films, Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock (above), has certainly justified the tag. He is currently lapping up praises for his role as a toughie in his latest flick, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, that hit Indian screens last week. The actor talks about the film, how different it is from the first venture, and his role.
How did you join the G.I.Joe: Retaliation team?
They wanted to take an already successful franchise and elevate it, make it better. In that sense, it was very appealing for me as an actor to come on board and breathe life into a character that was already quite strong in the G.I. Joe mythology.
How different is this one from the earlier film?
If we are going to be an arm or a representation of the US Military in our hyper realistic way of the GI Joe’s, let’s make it as real as we can make it and as rooted and as grounded and as boots on the ground as we possibly can. The first one was really successful, but we all knew there was a better and a more appealing movie to make.
Describe your character Roadblock.
Roadblock is considered the glue that holds the GI Joe’s together. He is well read, enjoys his poetry and is a hell of a cook and happens to be the only man on the planet, who can physically hold, one of the world’s largest weapons that is supposed to be mounted on a tank.
