Tipu Sultan is coming to the big screen and how. After the success of his 1989 hit TV series The Sword of Tipu Sultan, actor-producer Sanjay Khan, is now bringing the Tiger of Mysore on celluloid dashed with an international association.

“I’m making a big screen version of Tipu Sultan. It’s a huge project and India doesn’t have the capacity to support this kind of magnum opus right now, so it’ll be an international collaboration,” says the 70-year-old.

“The script is being written by a Hollywood writer, who is right now reading the book on Tipu Sultan by Bhagwan Gidwani. We are deciding on the director right now but it’ll be someone of huge calibre, either from India or Hollywood,” he adds.

The movie will be in English and will have European and American actors rubbing shoulders with Indian talent. Ask him who will be filling in his shoes as the the erstwhile ruler of Srirangapatna, and he says, “I have Bollywood actor in mind but I won’t reveal that now.”

Besides this, Khan has signed Allah Ke Banday fame director Faruk Kabir for two films — Ek Punch Prince and Welcome to the Jungle, starring his son Zayed in the lead.
