Eyeliner, nail paint, long, loose hair - that's what she is used to seeing on her famous mom, Katie Holmes. But when her superstar dad, Tom Cruise had to wear the same for his new flick, Rock of Ages, little Suri, 6, was all but happy.
"When I had the eyeliner on and the painted nails, Suri was a little taken aback by that.
She was like, 'What is happening to my daddy? My son Connor (on the other hand), has been concentrating on music and he was thrilled to see me as Stacee Jacxx," says the 49-year-old, who plays a "slave to rock and roll" in the big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical by the same name. It hits theatres worldwide today.
Getting under the skin of the character wasn't easy for Cruise.
"I read all the stuff about Led Zeppelin, the (Rolling) Stones, Axl Rose, Motley Crue and the groupies. I put in five hours a day learning to sing and three hours a day dancing," he says. So did he know he could sing before this?
"I knew I could hold a note. I sang in a glee club when I was 14, and in a high school musical. But I never had a singing lesson. No one ever taught me how to use my voice," says the actor, who has ended up appreciating the lives of artists such as "Bono, (Bruce) Springsteen, Bon Jovi or Axl Rose"."It takes so much work to get to that level," he says.
Last seen in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Cruise visited Mumbai and the Taj Mahal last December on a quick trip to promote the spy thriller. But he hasn't been able to get over the monument of love.
"I had a great stay in India. Unfortunately I had a short visit but I did manage to go see the Taj Mahal. It was just spectacular! And being the romantic that I am, I have to come back with Katie (to see the Taj again)," says the actor.
His view on Bollywood?"I have watched a couple of Indian films and I think they're incredible."
