Before working on Captain Phillips, Tom Hanks took advice from Matt Damon, who had much more experience working with director Paul Greengrass on the Bourne movies and Green Zone (2010).
The recently released film is based on a real-life incident where a captain was held hostage by Somali pirates. Hanks admits that he called up Matt Damon for advice on Captain Phillips. He says, “I called up Matt, who made (two of) the Bourne movies with Paul.”
He reveals that Matt, who earlier co-starred with him in Saving Private Ryan (1998), advised him, “Look, the first time you do it, it’s a disaster, because everyone’s talking on top of each other. But then it settles down.”
