Tom Hardy became the bookies’ front-runner to replace Daniel Craig as Agent 007 when the Dark Knight Rises actor chased down a thief who had fled after crashing a stolen bike and caught him in real life on Tuesday.

Tom, 39, was cut from 6/1 outsider to 6/4 favourite within hours after his real life action hero antics boosted his 007 credentials, reports The Sun.

Hardy became Ladbrokes’ number 1 pick to replace Craig, who still hasn’t confirmed his return for a fifth Bond film, after the Taboo star chased a thief through a building site by vaulting fences in London.

“I caught the c**t,” he proudly declared after catching the man, according to eyewitnesses.

“Tom must have been walking down the road. He went off like a shot in pursuit and looked furious. If the kid had been dumb enough to resist I reckon Tom would have given him a good hiding,” an eyewitness said.

Hardy overtook Idris Elba, whose odds lengthened to 4/1 alongside Michael Fassbender and Aiden Turner with Edward Norton at 6/1.
