"You toy with wrathful forces," says Andrew Scott's Inspector Turpin in the first trailer for Victor Frankenstein starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. The warning is addressed of course, to the titular Dr Frankenstein, guilty as charged.

This new Frankenstein is like nothing we've seen before: All razzle-dazzle and flash-bang, injected with a heavy dose of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. And since that series is on a hiatus apparently, this might work out well for all of us.

James McAvoy stars as Frankenstein, whose motivations seem to be fairly respectful of the source novel by Mary Shelley. But the film will be told from Igor's perspective. The image that will pop into your head when you think of Igor is probably that of a smarmy hunchback man with broken teeth and a greasy smile. This ain't your great-great grandfather's Igor: This Igor is Daniel Radcliffe.

Another reason to look forward to this, aside from the budding bromance between the main characters, the stylish action and some good old-fashioned scares is Max Landis. For those who don't know who he is, remember the name. Landis wrote 2012's revisionist superhero flick Chronicle, and this week's American Ultra. And his zingy words add something to Frankenstein.

Victor Frankenstein also stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott and Mark Gatiss. It is directed by Paul McGuigan and expected to arrive in cinemas on November 25.
