The reboot of RoboCop, the sci-fi action film from 1987, released a faux ad from its headquarters, OmniCorp, with a glimpse of its latest in innovative products, the new cyber-human crime fighter.
With the film set in a dystopian future, OminiCorp creates robots for security against threats. The RoboCop -- the RC-2000 -- is a next line of defense combining "human resources with robotics" designed to defend the police force.
The all-star cast for the RoboCop reboot, starring Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist/creator, Hugh Laurie(House MD) as the CEO of OmniCorp, Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) and Swedish-American Joel Kinnaman (The Girls with the Dragon Tattoo, Safe House) in the title role.
Similar to the viral-style campaigns from Iron Man and Prometheus, this one-minute promotional video intends to show how to make a city safe -- "no matter the obstacle -- political, cultural, philosophical."
Other high tech weapons featured include a drone surveillance plane and combat robot, ED 209.
Though it does not mention the film, the omnicorp.com website includes Products, Projects, Programs and Progress, and is likely to gather fans and followers.
The original RoboCop film directed by Paul Verhoeven (1990's Total Recall, Basic Instinct) followed a terminally wounded cop who returns to the police force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories that haunt him.
The new film, scheduled for August 2013 release, is being helmed by José Padhila (Elite Squad).
