A year ago, Duncan Jones’ Warcraft was the film that was supposed to redefine videogame adaptations. Now, after two lukewarm trailers and muddled early buzz, things aren’t looking as promising. But if there’s one thing that has been unanimously praised, it’s the film’s groundbreaking effects work. And some of it can be seen in these 9 before and after images and a making-of video released just in time to win over those people who are still on-the-fence.
Warcraft, an adaptation of the hugely popular Role Playing Game series, tells the story of two warring clans that must band together to face a common threat. These images highlight the stellar motion capture work done by ILM (Industrial Light & Magic), industry leaders in visual effects.
Seeing as the Orcs in Warcraft are basically 7-foot-tall hulking creatures, the filmmakers were forced to create them digitally, and all the footage we’ve seen so far looks incredible.
