Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 2 starring Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez.Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, the movie features returning patrons of the titular Hotel Transylvania who are trying hard to remain as monstrous as they once were. But the task seems more difficult than they had perhaps imagined. Why? Since their characters went through a grand arc of self discovery in the previous film.

In the sequel fans get to witness the same relentless Marx Brothers inspired visual gags, Adam Sandler’s SNL inspired Count Dracula, and his newly married daughter Mavis who has had a baby with Andy Samberg’s buffoon Jonathan.
Which brings us to the conflict of the film: Because of the baby’s lack of monster-like characteristics, Dracula panics and organises a monster boot-camp. And then, along comes great-grandpa Vlad (Mel Brooks), who is the vampire equivalent of an old racist hillbilly. He’s angry at his great-grandson’s impure blood and the hotel’s policy to now accept humans.
Mavis wants to move to the garish excess of California and Dracula will do whatever it takes to stop his family from drifting apart. Cue the feel-good story about accepting everyone for who they are and letting children be free.
Following the success of the first film, Sony gave the go-ahead to maverick animator Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Dexter’s Laboratory) to direct the sequel and a new Popeye film (a project he has since departed).Hotel Transylvania 2 also stars David Spade and Steve Buscemi. New cast members include Keegan-Michael Key, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and Mel Brooks. The film is written by Robert Smigel and expected in theatres on September 25.
