After a few months of feeding off teaser images, the wait is finally over. You can now watch Meryl Streep in action as a rock goddess in the first trailer for Ricki and the Flash. Owning the new role, Streep proves once again that she can do anything.
Directed by the Oscar-winning Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) and written by fellow Academy Award-winner, scriptwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult), Ricky and the Flash sees Meryl Streep play a hard-rock singer/guitarist.
This film, loaded with musical performances, stars Streep as Ricki Rendazzo, a musician who strives to mend the mistakes she made with her family while on the road to stardom. Mamie Gummer, Streep's real-life daughter, stars opposite the Oscar-winning actor as Ricki's daughter, Julie.
Ricki stays at her ex-husband's home along with his second wife, Maureen to support her daughter, whose husband has left her for another woman.
Not long ago, we found out that Streep had learnt to play the guitar for the film, and it seems like her hard work paid off. Ricki and the Flash looks wonderful and Streep's voice sounds amazing - she's equal parts Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks, really owning that rock goddess persona.
Even her speaking voice is throatier than normal, likely the result of Ricki's years of hard living on the road. Streep's received 19 Academy Award nominations to date, could Ricki and the Flash be her 20th?
