Once upon a time before there was Gru, three adorable yellow minions went for a voyage to find an evil master. Because, believe it or not, they have run out of terrible, horrible, up to no good masters to serve.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment released a new trailer of their upcoming animated comedy, Minions. It is a prequel to Despicable Me (2010) and Despicable Me 2 (2013) and has a trio of Minions as the leads -- yes, the same single-celled yellow organisms who have been admired by many in the franchise for their funny speech and adorable actions.

Minions -- which will be released on July 10, in the US -- is set at the dawn of the time. Minions evolve over time, serving most despicable of masters. Having left without any master to serve, they become depressed. From there begins the journey of three minions, Kevin, teenaged rebel Stuart and adorable Bob, who have decided to search for a new evil boss.

After a long thrilling and challenging journey they meet their new master, Scarlet Overkill -- the first ever female villain. Award-winning actor Sandra Bullock will voice Scarlet Overkill while Jon Hamm will voice Herb Overkill, husband of Scarlet. The trio’s journey leads them from Antarctica to 1960s New York and finally to modern-day London where they are faced with the challenge of saving their Minion clan.

The movie is written by Brian Lynch and is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. It is produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy.

Unlike the earlier films where we saw the trio serving a master, this time they are searching for one thereby offering us a new perspective. The story will now focus on the minions, unlike the prequels where Gru and his daughters were the protagonists.
