It’s been a couple of months since news of Kristen Stewart cheating on beau and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson broke, inviting the ire of Twihards the world over. But even today, there’s a constant buzz about their relationship status. In an exclusive interview, the Kristen says, “I reckon we both have been through enough and would like to have some privacy on this matter. I hope you understand.”
However, she does confirm that irrespective of whether they get back together, she will definitely attend the film’s premiere with Pattinson. “We’re adults. We know how to keep our personal and professional lives separate, and we wouldn’t want to upset our fans, who have showed us so much love and affection."
Robert adds, “We’ll do everything to keep our fans happy. It’s only because of them that I am where I am today. I do not want to deprive them of the encore they are looking forward to.”In this interview, the pair talks about the Twilight series coming to an end, and what the future has in store.
Describe your last day on the sets, wrapping up the franchise. What went through your mind?
Robert: I had overwhelming mixed emotions on the last day. I will definitely miss the crew and the fun times we have had. I hope we will work together again someday.Kristen: Well, it’s a lot to take, to be honest. We invested a substantial amount of time and effort to create the series. I had mixed emotions on the last day; there was a lot of excitement as we had completed the shooting for the finale. On the other hand, I was feeling sad that after spending so much time with the team, we won’t be meeting regularly anymore. It’s really weird!
What’s the best part about Twilight coming to an end?
Robert: I didn’t see my family during the entire shoot, and I’ve missed them a lot. I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with them.
Kristen: (I’ll have) A lot of ‘me time’, which means a long holiday and pampering myself. It’s been quite exhausting shooting for the movie — physically and emotionally. I’m really looking forward to a nice relaxing holiday near the sea or in the mountains.
When you took on the role, did you ever fathom the kind of hysteria the films would generate?
Robert: It’s an amazing experience. It’s a huge chunk of my life and the end of the movie — the last few scenes — kind of look back at the whole series. It’s so sweet. I feel so much older now. (Smiles)Kristen: At the outset, I was aware that playing one of the lead characters in this series would create some hysteria. However, the popularity of the movie and the characters took it to an unprecedented level. None of us expected this kind of response from the audience. They love us and this is something that has motivated us to do our best in return for their love and affection.
There’s been speculation that the end of the film is a bit different from the way the book ended. Is that true?
Kristen: I want to keep this as a mystery for the audience. I’m just going to say, it’s good. You have a child in this movie. How did that change things?
Robert: It definitely meant we had to grow up all of a sudden (laughs), but the best part about vampires is that it doesn’t show physically, so it wasn’t that hard really. It was nice to play a father in this installment. It brought out my paternal instinct.
Kristen: Having a child changes the whole perspective in a relationship. This is the first time ever that I’ve played the role of a mother. It was quite intense to play one at my age (Kristen is 22). It made me realise not to take parents for granted, the way we generally do. In the movie, I’m saving my daughter from the evil forces and go all out to save her, just like a real mother would.
People are going to remember you as Edward and Bella for a long time. How long do you think it will take for you to break out of that mould?
Robert: That is completely up to the people, but my challenge will be to work towards living up to their expectations in every film after this. I’m not sure if being remembered as Edward bothers me much. I’ve always been of the opinion that if something explodes really quickly, it will fade away that much faster as well.
Kristen: I do realise that most of the teens who have watched the movie address me as Bella off-screen too, and it doesn’t really bother me. I quite like that the role has had such an impact. Everything fades away with time and I am well aware that Bella, even though she is immortal in reel life, is actually a mortal in real life.
Are you going to avoid similar genres for a while now to avoid being slotted?
Robert: I think I’ve done many different roles already, and I want to offer something new with every film I do. That’s the only way to challenge myself as an actor.Kristen: I’m open to any role that comes my way — and requires that little extra on my part — to play it. I never select the movie based on its script; I look at the challenges that my character in the movie will pose for me. Moving forward, I definitely want to do varied roles — from genres like drama, thriller and comedy.
What other films do you have in hand right now?
Robert: Well, my upcoming movies are The Rover, Mission: Blacklist and Queen of the Desert. All three are in pre-production and will release by next year, I guess.Kristen: I haven’t zeroed in on what I will be doing next. I’m just awaiting the much-needed break and going on a holiday.
