Four years after The World’s End, master director Edgar Wright is finally back with Baby Driver. Starring Ansel Elgort in the lead with Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx, the film promises to be a thrilling, action-packed ride that looks a lot like a peppier prequel to Ryan Gosling’s Drive.
Baby Driver is the story of Baby, a young man played by Elgort, who drives thugs and bank robbers like Spacey and Hamm to and from the location of crime. He meets a beautiful waitress, played by Lily James, who is just as amused by his name as you are.
Poor Baby wants to get away from the dirty job and lead a better life with his waitress girlfriend but Spacey would not let him off so easy. He must fight, struggle and drive...really fast... to get out. And of course, do it all stylishly.
The film is not as perfectly comic as some of Wright’s earlier films (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World) but still has a distinct style of its own. Also, the music. Don’t miss the music.
Here’s an international version of the trailer which has some even better scenes and a less serious tone. Give this a watch too:
The film, which has already been screened at the South by Southwest Film Festival, comes out in August.
