To say that the superhero movies have become the most popular genre among moviegoers around the globe, would be the understatement of the year! What makes 2016 a special year for this genre you ask? Unlike the past years, this year will see six superhero movies hit the theatres and all of them come with a great cast and the promise to make this genre larger than it ever was.

“The market for superheroes is just getting better. With movies like Iron Man, Avengers and others being received really well by the growing young audience of the country, there couldn’t be a better time for this trend,” says trade analyst Atul Mohan, adding, “What I also feel is that this would be a great time for India to build on the trend and maybe form their own on-screen superhero team.”

In the words of movie antagonist Lex Luthor, this is going to be “The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world.” The film has been directed by Zack Snyder and will serve as a base for the upcoming DC movies. The movie stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in titular characters and slated for a March 25 release.

Captain America: Civil War

DC and Marvel have always been at war and Captain America’s latest release takes the war further! The movie, much like BvS, will see Iron Man and Captain America face off in all the superhero glory. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the movie stars big names and will release on May 6.

Unlike other movies on this list, this movie isn’t about good vs evil. Based on the DC Comics antihero team of the same name, the movie has been directed by David Ayer and will see prominent names in the cast. It is slated for an August 5 release.

Doctor Strange

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme, this movie will see one of the ‘strangest’ Marvel comic characters come to life. While not much has come out for the movie, the November 4 release looks promising in the leaked material online.

The recently-released film starring Ryan Reynolds has given rise to a whole new breed of comic nerds.
