There have been various short and feature length films made as part of the Walt Disney Winnie The Pooh series — The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh (1977), The Tigger Movie (2000), Piglet’s Big Movie (2003) and Pooh’s Heffalump Movie (2005). But this is the first time that Pooh Bear will come to India. The latest film, called Winnie The Pooh, will release in theatres around the country on August 12.
“It is indeed very exciting for us to release a Winnie The Pooh film in India for the first time,” says Seshasaye Kanthamraju, executive director, marketing and distribution, Walt Disney Studios, India.
Interestingly, the film is especially aimed at introducing young audiences under the age of eight to the big screen. Keeping that in mind, the length of the animation feature film does not exceed 69 minutes and maintains the light humour from the classic books.
“It has been well thought out keeping in mind the kind of patience that toddlers have. Sitting in front of a big screen or even a TV can make them restless at times, so this film addresses that need,” says Kanthamraju, adding, “The film is an attempt to introduce the tiny tots to the big screen.
And like most of our films, Winne The Pooh is family-inclusive, but is kids-centric. It will be a treat from the story’s and parents’ standpoints.”
Apart from Pooh, the film will star his friends — Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo and Eeyore.
Pooh Bear was a character created by AA Milne and the first collection of stories about it was the book Winnie-the-Pooh in 1926.
