Call it mass hysteria or technically speaking ‘online traffic’ that the view counter for international singer Adele’s official theme song for upcoming James Bond film, Skyfall, was stuck to 302 the entire day of its release on video sharing website, YouTube.
Published in the early hours of Friday morning, under the Grammy award winning singer’s handle, adelelondon, the song that has already topped the iTunes chart had only 302 views despite having 75,064 likes and 2,301 dislikes, at the time of going to press.
Fans went ballistic at the YouTube math gone awry. “302 views and 34,000 likes?!!??,” posted Motion BlurSt. “How can this have 302 views and 34,277? likes???” wrote nothke, while the likes kept increasing.
Some also gave their own technical viewpoints. “There’s a lag with the view counter (it’s this way with all videos, I think), where it stops around 300, then takes a little time to catch up to the actual number of views. If you check back later, the view count will be way up,” posted sixtypixies.
However, a YouTube spokesperson told us that the “Watch page gets updated after every eight hours. The current view status is over 15 lakh (at the time of going to press)”.
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, Skyfall, the song, has been composed on a 77-piece orchestra. It is the first recording by Adele since releasing her massively successful sophomore album 21 in early 2011.
The film will release in India on November 2, a week before its release date in the US (November 9).
