Answers to all your car-related queries.I booked a Toyota Fortuner in April and its waiting period is six to eight months. I read that the new Fortuner has launched in Thailand; is there any news of an Indian launch date and should I wait for it? Nishant Aggarwal
The new Fortuner, was recently unveiled at the Auto Expo held in the city. You can get the car with a two-wheel-drive option (which will make it significantly cheaper) and with automatic transmission as well.I bought and registered a Honda City in New Delhi in January 2011. I have re-located to Mumbai and I plan to bring my car here, but I will have to re-register it. This will involve an amount close to Rs 2 lakh. What should I do? Tarun Jung Rawat
A Delhi registered car, if transferred to Mumbai, will attract an entry tax (Sales Tax) since the car is less than 30 months old. This comes to 12 per cent on the manufacturing cost. Also, one has to pay the one-time RTO tax (Maharashtra) at eight per cent on the invoice value, plus 4.5 per cent octroi. The transfer will not be a practical solution — our advice is to sell the car in Delhi and buy a new one in Mumbai.I want to buy a car and I will be travelling about 60-70km a day, so a diesel car is what I would prefer. My budget is Rs 5-5.5 lakh, but I can push it to Rs 6.5-7 lakh. I’m looking for something that is user-friendly, spacious, good looking, gadget-packed and is value for money. I currently have a Maruti Swift and I am considering the Nissan Micra. I wouldn’t mind a second-hand car either.
If you like the Micra diesel, then that’s the best option. The 1.5-litre Renault K9K diesel is one of the most responsive ones around and makes city driving very easy. It has lots of features and the push-button start/stop function is a first in this class.I currently drive a Fiat Linea. I am now scouting for a diesel saloon, priced around Rs 10-15 lakh, which is as stylish and has an upmarket image. I clock around 30,000km annually.
If you have had a happy experience with the Linea and want another good looking vehicle, we suggest you look at the new Ford Fiesta. It is a bit on the pricey side, but you can push for discounts and it fits comfortably in your budget.
