Mercedes-Benz has launched the diesel version of the new S-class in India at Rs. 1.07 crore (ex-showroom, Pune). The Mercedes-Benz S 350 CDI is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine good for 255bhp and 63.22kgm of torque. This, in combination with the seven-speed automatic gearbox, gets the car to 100kph from rest in a claimed 6.8 seconds. Like the S 500 petrol version, the S 350 CDI, including the bodywork for the first time, will be assembled at Mercedes' Chakan plant.
The new Mercedes S 350 CDI gets similar equipment levels to the S 500 variant, although it skimps on certain features that are standard on the petrol version. However, you still get air suspension, eight airbags, Mercedes' 'Pre-Safe' system, a park assist system, powered rear seats, a rear-seat entertainment system comprising of two 10-inch screens and wireless headphones, and the fantastic 'hot stone massage' seats as standard. There's also the function by which the front passenger seat can be moved 77mm forward from the rear seat to free up more legroom.
Deliveries for the new Mercedes-Benz S 350 CDI are being promised by end-June or early July.
