Nissan has presented its new 5-door compact sedan, which was designed specifically for the European market. Slated to go on sale on the continent this fall, the Pulsar is characterized by the same design language and many of the same technologies as the latest Qashqai and X-Trail models.

The Nissan Pulsar's front -- with its chrome V-shaped grille and LED headlights -- echoes the one seen on the brand's latest SUV and crossover.

But the resemblance doesn't stop there. The Pulsar is equipped with the same "Safety Shield" package seen on the Qashqai and the X-Trail, including motion detection, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. Nissan has also added an emergency auto-braking feature. Finally, the 360° AVM-Vision system, with four cameras, transmits a bird's-eye view of the vehicle to the NissanConnect color screen, offering a useful visual aid for the driver during parallel parking, for example.

For its part, the latest NissanConnect navigation system is smartphone-compatible and can call up Google Maps locations via the Google Send To Car app.

Nissan is offering its new model with a choice between the 1.2-liter DiG-T petrol turbo engine with 115hp and the 1.5 dCi diesel with 110hp. In early 2015, the manufacturer will also offer the Pulsar with a new fuel engine packing 190hp. CO2 emissions promise to be below 95g/km across the board.

The Nissan Pulsar will enter an extremely competitive sector, going up against such popular alternatives as the Ford Focus, the Vokswagen Golf and the Peugeot 308.
