One of the pioneers in distance education, the Annamalai University offers a slew of undergraduate, diploma, special degree, postgraduate and even doctoral courses through the distance learning mode. The Directorate of Distance Education of Annamalai University was set up in 1979 and has been rendering yeoman service in continuing education to all age groups across the country.

The undergraduate courses cover both standard and offbeat subjects offered under humanities, commerce, management and science. For instance, under humanities there are subjects like population studies, history and heritage management, police administration, social welfare administration and so forth. Visual communication, networking and infrastructure management and digital media are some of the offbeat subjects offered under science. The duration of study for undergraduate programmes ranges between a year and three years. The syllabus for most of these subjects incorporates a huge practical component.

Some professional courses too are offered in the undergraduate bouquet of which mention may be made of bachelor of education (BEd), bachelor of music (BMusic), bachelor of dance (BDance), bachelor of general law (BGL), bachelor of computer applications (BCA) and bachelor of mass communication.

Under the postgraduate diploma courses mention may be made of adolescent health care, diabetology, medical cosmetology, operation theatre techniques and coastline agriculture (among many others). The special degree courses are essentially dual degree programmes.

The application and prospectus for all these courses can be obtained from the university, study centres or online. The online link has details and addresses of the authorised study centres along with comprehensive and detailed information on courses, eligibility criteria, application and admission procedure (along with deadlines).
