Smiles for some, apprehension for others on their first day in college.

The University of Delhi’s Faculty of Social Sciences has approved the economics and political science courses for the new four-year undergraduate programme.

This includes the honours programme (i.e. Discipline 1 courses), the entire list of Discipline 2 courses and the entire list of the application courses (AC) related to the departments of economics and of political science. “DC 2 courses are available as a wide list of options from various departments for all undergraduate students to grant them, as per their choice, wide exposure to other subjects outside their chosen major (honours course) discipline. The application courses are skill-based courses that shall enable employability for students and they offer a wide list of choices,” said a university statement.

The geography department (DC 1, DC 2 and AC courses) and the department of East Asian studies courses have already been approved earlier. Mathematics courses (DC 1; DC 2 and AC) have also been approved. The department of computer science will offer a BTech degree. The Faculty of Sciences also approved courses at the departments of physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, anthropology, geology, home science (food technology), and Dr BR Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research.
