How to make the most of a break

Be it school, college or work, life today has become really hectic. In our efforts to meet deadlines, each of us tends to get stressed. However, the breaks we get from our mundane lives help us beat the stress and regain strength to take on the challenges that lie ahead. While some students resort to simply doing ‘nothing’, others get hooked to Facebook and television which are surely not the best forms of recreation. Here are some ideas you can try to make the most of your breaks.


Take up a new hobby:
Be it wanting to pick up a new instrument or learning to play a sport, we all have things we’ve always wanted to do but never had the time. Use your vacation to explore new hobbies and interests.

Spend time with friends: Being on vacation is no reason to take a break from your friends. Spend time with your buddies; go out with them and have some fun.

Be active: Don’t resort to being a couch potato during your breaks. Whether studying, working or on holiday, it’s essential to include some physical activity as a part of the day. Don’t spend all your time indoors — take up a sport, go for a jog or just play outside with your friends.

Family matters: Breaks provide a good opportunity to spend some quality time with your family and talk about things other than academics and future prospects. If possible, spend some time with your grandparents as well.

Travel: Travelling and exploring new places is a great way to spend your vacations. It gives you a chance to get acquainted to a world different than yours, different people, cultures and ideologies.

Pick up a good book: Cultivating the habit of reading is going to hold you in good stead for many years to come. Whatever the genre of book, pick up something that you think might interest you.

Look ahead: The summer vacations are the one time when you can really leave the woes of studies. Rather than fretting about previous year’s results or the coming year’s expectations, use this time to just relax and rejuvenate.
