Take care of your eyes

Long spells of time spent on studies put a strain on students’ eyes. The strain leads to a number of effects including sore eyeballs, headaches, saggy eyes, eye bags and dark circles.

But through different ways and means we can protect our eyes and also enhance our vision.

First and foremost, surrounding light is very important while studying. Otherwise, it can cause strain through peripheral vision. Therefore, it is necessary to keep overall lighting at a moderate level so there is good contrast around you.

Use full spectrum lighting. Lighting, like sunlight, which covers the visual spectrum makes things easier to see.

Reading for long or working on the computer screen for hours causes burning sensation and redness in the eyes.

To prevent it, you must get into the habit of looking far away every half an hour of working at the PC or reading a book. This gives the lenses in our eyes exercise and reduces strain.

Add these few practices and foods in your daily routine to improve your vision and sight. Let not anything steal the twinkle from our eyes.

Give them a rest

* When you feel tired after reading, please close your eyes and take a good rest
* Drink a cup of black tea which is good to recover eyesight 
* Apply cucumber slices to keep your eyes fresh
* Keep the surrounding light balanced
* Massage your eyelids and muscles over your brow, temple and upper cheek once or twice daily
* It is said the walking barefoot on wet grass either early in the morning or in the evening keeps the eyes fresh and cool. There happens to be a connection between the nerve endings in the feet and the eyes
* A diet rich in vitamin A helps eyes and protects the cornea which is essential for good vision. Vitamin
A-rich foods include sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach, broccoli, eggs, papayas and mangoes
* High sodium in the food can increase blood pressure which can damage the blood vessels in the eyes. So, substitute salt with natural herbs and spices. Also check the sodium or salt content in packaged foods which you consume
* As long as a student relaxes, unstrained posture, good breathing and blinking, and do not stare or squint, he may read for as long as he wants with ease
