UPSC notifies schedule for entry to defence services

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has notified the examination and admission schedule to the National Defence Academy, Naval Examination (II) and Combined Defence Services Examination (II). The National Defence Academy and Naval Examination will be held on the September 28, 2014 and the Combined Defence Services Examination on the October 26, 2014.

The National Defence Academy and the Naval Examination (II) are conducted for the admission to Army and Air Force wings of NDA for the 134th course and the 96th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). The admission process has already started from June 21. Candidates joining the Indian Naval Academy would be selected to pursue the four-year BTech course and would be given an opportunity to join executive and technical branches of the Navy, subject to availability of vacancies. The total numbers of available seats are 375, out of which 320 seats are for National Defence Academy and 55 for Naval Academy Course. The National Defence Academy further has 208 posts allocated to Army, 42 to Navy and 70 to Air Force. There are chances of changes in the number of posts available. The admission process for the Combined Defence Services Examination (II) will start on July 19. The  Combined Defence Services Examination (II) is conducted for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy. Only unmarried candidates above the age of 19 are allowed to register. The upper limit of age varies from category to category.

Class 12 is the basic educational requirement with the compulsion of physics and mathematics. For the National Defence Academy and Naval Examination (II), the candidates are required to pay a sum of `100 as the application fee either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or using net banking facility of State Bank of India by July 20. Prescibed test centres include Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Lucknow and Raipur. The candidates also have to go through psychological aptitude test and intelligence test in the second round conducted by the Services Selection Board. As per the guidelines, the candidate must also be declared physically fit by the medical board. The last date for submitting applications is July 21 for the National Defence Academy, Naval Examination (II) and August 18 for Combined Defence Services Examination. Candidates can apply online on   www.upsc.gov.in.
