Make the ‘Moss’ of it: You need confidence and panache to become a supermodel like Kate Moss

The lowdown
Do you have a pleasant personality? Are you confident before the camera or on the runway? If yes, then modelling could be the career for you. A highly lucrative job which gets you a liberal dose of fame, it is also very stressful with cut-throat competition. Modelling can mean walking the runway for designers, doing TV and print ads, working for magazine photo shoots or a combination of all of these. Confidence is key in this business. Good skin and hair, sharp features and a toned body are musts for a model. Lots of stamina and energy will be an added advantage. For a model, there is no one look that works always, so be ready to reinvent yourself. Once you establish a name for yourself, be ready to be wooed by top fashion designers. However, remember to keep a balance between personal and professional life. Also, as most models retire young,  don’t forget to have a backup plan ready

Clockwork
There is no fixed routine that is followed every day. The working days and hours change according to appointments and shoots
6am: Go to the gym, or do an hour’s yoga or jogging
9am: Breakfast
10am: Leave for fitting sessions with designers
12pm: Lunch
2pm: Rehearse for a show
6pm: Make-up and hair styling session
8pm: Fashion show begins
11.30pm: Call it a day

The payoff
As a beginner, a model makes about Rs. 4,000- Rs. 6,000 per shoot or show. After three to four years, one might get Rs. 15,000- Rs. 20,000. A supermodel can earn Rs. 50,000, after which the sky is the limit. Models working in TV commercials are paid more than Rs. 20,000 per day. The money depends on your looks and body. A beautiful face on a well-toned body can command handsome money, even if you are just a fresher
