When it comes to ICC events, more so in the Champions Trophy, India’s openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma form a formidable pair. During India’s game against Sri Lanka at The Oval on Thursday, Dhawan and Rohit maintained their marvellous form as they stitched together a 100-plus opening stand for the fourth time in the tournament after giving India a fantastic start. In seven matches in this tournament, the duo has stitched over 600 runs at an average of 100 plus. With four century opening partnerships, Rohit and Dhawan sit on top of the pile when it comes to opening partnerships. The century opening stands have come against South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and now Sri Lanka. (IND vs SL scorecard)

The remarkable thing about the Dhawan-Rohit opening combination is that they have registered this figure in just seven ICC Champions Trophy games.

In the 2013 Champions Trophy, which India won, the duo had notched up partnerships of 127, 101, 58, 77 and 19. In the 2017 edition, they started off with a 136-run stand against Pakistan in Edgbaston on Sunday, following it up with another century partnership against Sri Lanka.

The efforts of Rohit and Dhawan have put India in the driver’s seat in this tournament. India will be banking on them as they look to win the Champions Trophy for the third time.
