As many as 10,318 people of the Hamirpur district were given employment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) during year 2012-13 and 2,43,000 maydays were generated during the period.
This was revealed in a district-level committee meeting for implementation of various plans. MP Anurag Thakur chaired the meeting while deputy commissioner Ashish Singhmar was also present in the meeting.
It was revealed in the meeting that 14,571 people had sought jobs under MNREGA out of which 10,318 were given jobs. All 229 gram panchayats of the district have been declared free of open defecation and it was a great achievement for any district in the state.
Addressing the meeting, Anurag Thakur expressed satisfaction over the performance achieved under various schemes but added that there was a need to complete the targets in time.
Deputy commissioner said that efforts were on to complete the targets in time and to make Hamirpur number one under all programmes. He said under the institutional deliveries of children, the district was on the top rank in the state.
