At least 10 pilgrims including women and children died and 34 were injured in a road mishap on Chilkana-Sarsawa road of Saharanpur district on Sunday evening.
The injured have been admitted to district hospital in Saharanpur and Primary Health Centre in Sarsawa for treatment. Some of the injured are stated to be critical.
SSP Pradeep Kumar rushed to the spot along with other officials and sent the injured to hospital while bodies were sent for post-mortem.
The incident occurred around 6pm when pilgrims were returning from Bagad area after performing a ritual on the occasion of Naagpanchami.
Over 50 women and children were travelling in a tractor trolley when the tractor’s brake locked and the trolley overturned. Many pilgrims were trapped under the trolley and at least 10 women and children died on the spot. Passersby and villagers also helped in rescue work and admitted 34 people to hospitals.
