Thanks to the hype of couples wanting to have their wedding on a peculiar or fancy date, several thousand nuptials have been scheduled in the Capital on 11/12/13 to make the last sequential date of the century a special part of their lives. Wednesday: The 11th day of the 12th month of the 13th year of the millennium will be a happy day for many to-be couples but could be a nightmare for commuters.

Traffic police are anticipating major traffic snarls and personnel have been pulled out from routine duties to focus on traffic management near the wedding venues.

The worst affected stretches will be Dwarka Link Road, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, Vikas Marg, Chhatarpur and Narela-Alipur Road that are packed with banquet halls and farmhouses.

The other big wedding venues include GT Road, Punjabi Bagh, Kakardooma, Netaji Subhash Marg, Rohini, Vasant Kunj and Pragati Maidan.

The 200-metre stretch at Netaji Subhash Place in Rohini has at least ten wedding venues. “On auspicious days, all venues are booked. It becomes a traffic nightmare. It takes more than an hour to cross this stretch,” said Navodit Chanana, a resident of Paschim Vihar.

“At each of the locations, traffic police will deploy dedicated teams. They will carry e-challan devices and alcometers (breath analysers to detect alcohol consumption). Cranes will be at hand to remove defunct vehicles and illegally parked cars,” said Anil Shukla, additional commissioner of police (traffic).
