Among the dead are seven school children who were returning home after quarterly examination. The toll is likely to go up as most of the injured are in critical condition.

According to initial reports, the speeding bus lost control while overtaking another and hit a tree before plunging into a deep gorge. Nine persons died on the spot. Last week eight persons died in the same district when the auto they were travelling hit by a bus.

“Nine bodies have been identified. The government will ensure best treatment for all the injured,” said State Transport Minister Aryadan Ahmed who hails from the same district.
