13 of marriage party killed as bus rolls down gorge in Udhampur

In a tragic road accident, 13 passengers were killed and 54 others sustained injuries when a bus carrying a marriage party skidded off road and rolled down about 300-foot-deep gorge near Dudu on Saturday evening.


According to reports, the ill-fated bus, carrying around 67 passengers was on its way from Dudu to Basantgarh when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled down the gorge, resulting in on-the-spot death of 13 persons and injuries to 54 others.

Soon after receiving the information about the accident, a contingent of police personnel rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. The occupants of the vehicle were rescued and rushed to the nearby hospital where 13 persons were declared brought dead, while 54 others were shifted to District Hospital, Udhampur, for treatment. 

Governor NN Vohra and chief minister Omar Abdullah have expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur.

In his condolence message, the chief minister expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for early recovery of the injured. He directed the district administration for rendering all help to the injured ensuring them best possible treatment.
