A Class 9 student was allegedly abducted, gang-raped and poisoned on the outskirts of Varanasi on Thursday. The girl died on Friday night at a local hospital.

All four accused have been arrested on the basis of the victim's dying statement. A case of rape and murder has been lodged against them.

They have been identified as Shailendra, alias Abhay, Kariya, Ajeet and Vinod. All of them are local residents.

While some said Shailendra had an affair with the 16-year-old girl, her family members denied the rumours.

The victim was abducted two days ago. After allegedly raping the girl, the accused forcibly made her consume poison.

Later, they dumped her at a secluded spot near Kashipur in the Rohania area.

Local villagers informed the police after finding her. She was taken to a nearby hospital. On Friday, the girl was shifted to Shiv Prasad Gupta divisional hospital, where she died.
