A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after two unidentified men threw acid on her on Thursday night in Surendra Nagar area in Aligarh.

The Class 11 student of Tika Ram College sustained 60% burn injuries, while her left cornea has been damaged in the attack, police said.

An FIR under Indian Penal Code section 326A has been lodged against unidentified men, circle officer SC Rawat said. He added that SP (city) Pankaj Pande recorded the victim’s statement.

The victim named Jyoti is the daughter of Som Dutt, a head constable posted in Agra. She works as a part-time employee at a show room in the city. She was returning home after her duty around 9.30pm on Thursday when two bike-borne miscreants intercepted her near her house. The miscreants threw acid on her and sped off on their bike. They also abandoned the acid container at the spot.

The girl suffered burn injuries on her hands and eyes and was rushed to a private hospital by her family members. On Friday, doctors said one eye of the victim was badly damaged, while a part of her face was disfigured.

Talking to HT, the SP (city) said that the victim had failed to identify the criminals. The  police were investigating the case from several angles.
