Two men have been arrested for the alleged rape of a teenaged Assamese girl in Mahipalpur area of South Delhi, police said on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Rahul and Haroon, both in their 20s and residents of Tezpur, Assam. Police said the duo was arrested following a complaint by the girl.

“In her complaint, she claimed that the men – whom she has been friends with since well before leaving Tezpur some months ago – confined her at a rented house in Mahipalpur and sexually exploited her,” said a senior police officer.

The police said the incident, according to the victim, had taken place on Friday evening following which she roamed the streets before being approached by a police vehicle around 3.30 pm on Saturday afternoon.

“The PCR vehicle took her to the Safdurjung Hospital for a medical examination even as senior officials were informed about her allegation. A case was registered at the Vasant Kunj (north) police station after medical tests confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted,” the officer said.

The police team was quickly able to track down the duo and placed them under arrest. They were produced at the Saket district courts and sent to police custody subsequently.

Police said the complainant, a class ten student, was friends with both men. On February 9, she had returned from a trip to Kerala with Rahul.

Haroon, the police said, had met the couple at the railway station before taking them both to the Mahipalpur residence where she was allegedly subjected to sexual abuse.
