5 crushed to death by a truck on NH 1 in Panipat

Police have arrested the driver of the truck and booked him under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC.

At least 5 people were crushed to death by a speeding truck after a road accident on the National Highway 1 near Paseena village of Samalkha block of Panipat district on early Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Jitendra Singh (28) of Jorasi village of Panipat district, Kuldeep Singh (26) of Dandhola village of Panipat district, Kundan Singh (45) of Dinanath colony of Panipat city and Kamal and Kamlesh of Solan district of Himachal Pradesh.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Panipat DSP (headquarters) Jagdeep Singh said that the accident took place when a canter loaded with pomegranates was on its way from Delhi to Himachal and overturned on the NH 1 due to tyre burst.

People gathered at the spot and were trying to take out driver Kamal and cleaner Kamlesh out from the canter then a speeding truck coming from the back side hit the canter and also crushed five people including driver and cleaner of the canter, killing three of them on the spot.

An eye witness said that Jitender, Kuldeep and Kundan were helping driver of the canter Kamal and Kamlesh to come out when the truck crushed them and three peple died on the spot and two were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The DSP said that the police have arrested the driver of the truck and booked him under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC.

He said that the bodies were sent for the postmortem at civil hospital Panipat and police have informed their family members.
